YouTube TV finally removed one of its worst restrictions and I couldn’t be happier

I’ve been critical of YouTube TV in the past, mainly because of its price hikes, but I have to say that, so far, 2026 is off to a good start for the Google-owned TV streaming service. Earlier this year, YouTube TV introduced over 10 new, cheaper plans for the service, including a Sports Plan for $65 a month and an Entertainment Plan for $55 a month, lowering the barrier to entry compared to its $83 base plan.

Additionally, back in January, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan promised that YouTube TV would soon release a new “fully customizable multiview” feature, letting you have complete control over which channels you watch simultaneously with YouTube TV’s popular multiview feature, which, for as long as it’s been around, has been restricted to preselected options. Now, it appears fully customizable multiview is finally here.

Reddit users recently noticed that Google has started rolling out its long-awaited customizable multiview feature to YouTube TV (via Android Authority). Most importantly, it seems to support every single channel on YouTube TV. That means you can create whatever multiview channel setup your heart desires, with no limitations.

When you open the new multiview menu (by pressing down on your remote), you’ll see a “Your multi-view” menu pop-up with options to browse sections and add channels, including recommended, sports, news, movies, shows, and more. Each multiview setup can include up to four channels, the same number as the preset multiview used to have.

Customizable multiview is still rolling out

It’s also appearing on mobile

While it’s great to see YouTube TV finally rolling out fully customizable multiview, there’s a bit of an asterisk here — not everyone has access just yet. Some users are already seeing it in the YouTube TV app on their TVs, while others aren’t, which suggests this is a gradual, server-side rollout Google is pushing out over time. So if you don’t see it yet, hopefully it will appear sooner rather than later.

In addition to appearing on TVs for some users, customizable multiview is also starting to roll out in YouTube TV’s mobile app. It works just like on the TV app, letting you pick any four channels to watch simultaneously by browsing sections like sports and news.

I’m so happy that multiview’s old preset-channel restriction will soon be gone for good for everyone.

So far, the reaction to the feature has been positive, despite its staggered rollout. One Redditor in particular is happy that you can now watch RSN (Regional Sports Networks) in multiview. So if you’re in the Philadelphia area, for example, you can watch the Phillies baseball game alongside the Flyers hockey game.

What I’m really glad about is that, based on these early reports, YouTube TV’s “fully customizable multiview” actually lives up to its name. I was worried there would still be limitations on what you can add, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. You can truly create any combination of channels to watch, and I’m so happy that multiview’s old preset-channel restriction will soon be gone for good for everyone.
