A man is in hospital under police guard after a woman was found dead inside a home north-west of Melbourne.

Emergency services were called to the Connor Street home in Bacchus Marsh shortly after 3.30am on Wednesday.

A woman, who is yet to be formally identified, was found dead inside the home.

A man, 75, was arrested at the scene and taken to hospital under police guard with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

‘It is believed the parties are known (to each other) and, at this stage, police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident,’ a police statement read.

No charges have yet been laid. 

A crime scene was established at the property as homicide detectives investigated the circumstances surrounding the death.
