Warner Bros. has had an unusual few years, watching several finished projects take strange, delayed routes to audiences. One title spent so long stuck in limbo that its eventual arrival on the big screen felt almost improbable. Now, filmmaker Edgar Wright has weighed in after watching it, giving the saga a fresh, unexpected chapter.

While the film’s path to theaters resembled its own cartoon chaos, one glowing reaction has arrived to prove the wait was worth it.

Edgar Wright has become the latest big name to champion the once-shelved comedy, calling Coyote vs. Acme worth every bit of its chaotic path to release. The film follows Wile E. Coyote suing the corporation behind his failed gadgets.

“What an absolute hoot! Had tons of anvil sized fun seeing COYOTE VS. ACME at the cinema just now,” Wright wrote, taking to X.

He then added, “It’s genuinely one of the best and most timely films made by a studio I’ve seen all year.”

In the same X post, Wright praised the writing and a steady stream of jokes landing roughly every three seconds. He called it a loving tribute to Looney Tunes pioneers Chuck Jones, Tex Avery, and Michael Maltese. Wright rated it five out of five sticks of dynamite, calling its winding journey to release ironic given the finished result, then urged others not to skip it.

While Wright’s endorsement lit up social media, the film itself carries just as much intrigue in front of and behind the camera.

Coyote vs Acme cast and release date add to the excitement

Coyote vs. Acme brings together Will Forte as down-on-his-luck lawyer Kevin Avery, John Cena as Acme’s sharp corporate counsel Buddy Crane, and Lana Condor as Kevin’s niece and assistant Paige Avery. Luis Guzmán, Martha Kelly, and Tone Bell round out the human cast. Eric Bauza voices an entire roster of Looney Tunes characters, including Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and the Road Runner. Dave Green directs from a script by Samy Burch, based on Ian Frazier’s original New Yorker piece.

The film screened for audiences at San Diego Comic-Con on July 25, 2026, ahead of its wide theatrical debut on August 28, distributed by Ketchup Entertainment after Warner Bros. previously shelved it. Some international markets, including the United Kingdom, received it slightly earlier, around August 21. With reviews from voices like Edgar Wright already circulating, the timing gives Coyote vs. Acme a strong send-off right as it finally reaches the audience it was always meant to have.
