Better Mobile Xperience (BMX) just released its SolidSafe Air 5K power bank, and I’m amazed by its ultrathin design. It attaches magnetically to my phone and adds a tiny sliver to its thickness compared to my other power banks, which have unique features but aren’t pocket-friendly.
The INIU Pocket Rocket P50 and retractable Baseus models offer outstanding features, but the latest solid-state technology is a true game-changer in battery design and contributes to the SolidSafe Air 5K’s unbelievable size. Instead of the liquid found in regular lithium-ion batteries, it uses solid electrolytes to deliver faster charging and a longer overall lifespan. Solid-state batteries are also better for travel because they are more stable and less prone to overheating due to power fluctuations and other issues. I experienced these and other features first-hand when I tested the SolidSafe Air 5K for a week, and here’s how it went.

Pocket-sized practicality
The SolidSafe Air 5K’s compact size immediately grabbed my attention and announced it as something unique on the market. It’s hard to disagree with BMX’s claim that it’s “the world’s thinnest Qi2 solid-state powerbank” when you consider its 4.1-inch length, 2.8-inch width, and 0.27-inch thickness.
Design-wise, BMX keeps things simple with subtle branding and six LED battery level indicator lights on the back. There’s a tactile power button in the bottom corner, and the front features a large magnetic pad for attaching to your phone, and labels indicating its capacity and other relevant fine print. It’s available in silver, black, and gold, each with a classy metallic finish thanks to its titanium construction, which enhances durability and drop protection.
Using the SolidSafe Air 5K is as simple as it gets. All I needed to do was charge it with the supplied USB-C cable or my regular phone charger. Then I attached it to the back of my phone to charge wirelessly, or used the USB-C cable when I wanted faster speeds.
The SolidSafe Air 5K is Qi 2 compatible and offers 15W wireless charging and 20W wired charging from its 5,000mAh battery.
Speaking of charging speeds, the SolidSafe Air 5K is Qi 2 compatible and offers 15W wireless charging and 20W wired charging from its 5,000mAh battery. These speeds aren’t the fastest, but they get the job done and provide stable and efficient charging.
To get an idea of performance, the SolidSafe Air 5K took around 2.5 hours to charge my Samsung Galaxy S25 FE from 0% to 60% before it ran out of juice. Wired charging is faster, and it charged my phone to 70% in around 1.5 hours before the battery got flat. The power bank supports 15W charging and takes just over two hours to fully charge.
The SolidSafe Air 5K is currently available on the official BMX site for $60. It has a 30-day return policy and a two-year warranty against defects or quality issues.

What I liked about the SolidSafe Air 5K
As simple as it gets
The SolidSafe Air 5K’s slimline design is my favorite feature. I used it on my Samsung Galaxy and iPhone with the cases on and barely noticed it in my pocket. I also appreciated the strong magnet, which had a secure fit and never felt like it would disengage while I used my phone for daily tasks. This feature makes a difference to me, as I’ve had power banks that I had to hold in place to keep them from falling due to their bulk and weight.
I also liked that the SolidSafe Air 5K’s wireless charging can top up my phones while they’re in their cases. I’ve tried other chargers that require me to remove my case whenever I need to charge my phone, and usually give up on them because they’re impractical.
I also liked that the SolidSafe Air 5K’s wireless charging can top up my phones while they’re in their cases.
Another advantage of the SolidSafe Air 5K is its ability to charge two devices simultaneously. I connected it to my Galaxy phone wirelessly and to my Galaxy Tab via USB-C at a coffee shop, and it charged both devices without a hitch. The USB-C versatility also let me charge my earbud case and wireless controller when I’m on the go.
What I didn’t like about the SolidSafe Air 5K
You’ll need to pay for the premium experience.
The SolidSafe Air 5K delivers a unique experience, but you’ll need to pay for the privilege. It costs significantly more than rival 5,000mAh power banks, and it may be worth buying the two or three-pack options, which offer greater savings and significantly reduce the individual price.
Should you buy the SolidSafe Air 5K?
It’s a no-brainer
For me, it’s hard to put a price on practicality, and I’d rather spend more on a power bank I can carry with me anywhere than save a few bucks on one that stays in the drawer. The SolidSafe Air 5K impressed me with its decent battery capacity in a compact size, and it is a product I can happily use daily.
