One of the most legendary movies of all time is now free to stream

When you think of films widely considered “legendary,” classics like Gone with the Wind, Citizen Kane, and Casablanca may come to mind, along with genre-defining blockbusters like Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and The Dark Knight. While I love all of those movies, there’s one film from 1972 in particular that’s often regarded as a masterpiece, and whenever I come across it, I can’t resist watching it. It delivers the perfect blend of gripping storytelling and masterful direction. The film I’m referring to is none other than The Godfather.

Directed by Francis Ford Coppola, The Godfather is widely considered one of the greatest movies of all time. It follows the story of the powerful Corleone crime family as its aging patriarch, Don Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando), tries to pass control of his criminal empire to his son, Michael (Al Pacino), who is reluctant to take on the mantle. The film opens as a family drama, but as it unfolds, it becomes a jaw-dropping story of loyalty, betrayal, and power.

The Godfather features a star-studded cast, and if you’re a film buff, you’ll likely recognize many of the faces, including, of course, Al Pacino, Marlon Brando, James Caan, Diane Keaton, Talia Shire, and Robert Duvall.

And fortunately, if you’ve never seen The Godfather, or you’re looking to give it a long-overdue rewatch, there’s never been a better time, as it’s now available to stream for free.

The Godfather is now available on Pluto TV

Stream the pinnacle of American filmmaking for free

Pluto TV is a popular free, ad-supported streaming service, and this May it added more than 100 new movies to its library, which already includes thousands of on-demand TV shows and films. One of those additions is, of course, The Godfather, so you can now stream the nearly three-hour-long epic for free.

However, while you can stream The Godfather for free on Pluto TV, you’ll need to sit through occasional ads because it’s an ad-supported platform. If you’d rather skip the ads entirely, you can watch it ad-free on Paramount+ with a Premium subscription, or add it to your physical media collection by buying it on Blu-ray or 4K Ultra HD from Amazon.

Additionally, Pluto TV is offering The Godfather Part II for free to stream, so once you’ve seen the first film, you can also watch the second film for free, which is a nice bonus.

The Pluto TV app is available on most streaming platforms and smart TVs, as well as on iOS and Android devices.

Mission: Impossible and Top Gun: Maverick are also free to stream

Top Gun Maverick on an LG TV.

If The Godfather doesn’t quite pique your interest, or you’ve already seen it too many times, don’t worry. Pluto TV has plenty of other free movies to stream.

The service recently added Top Gun: Maverick and the first five Mission: Impossible movies, along with a bunch of other classics, like War of the Worlds, Braveheart, Green Room, There Will Be Blood, Fright Night (1985), and Saving Private Ryan, one of my favorite war movies of all time.
