Apparently, Millie Bobby Brown has officially had enough of the internet’s Enola Holmes manicure discourse.
In case you somehow missed it, Millie’s nails became the unexpected subject of internet debate earlier this year after Netflix dropped a first look at Enola Holmes 3, AKA the movie about a teenage detective solving mysteries in the 1800s with a reported budget of $20-$30 million.
With the internet being the internet, people obviously had to zoom in on one tiny detail: Millie’s very modern-looking manicure. Or UV-cured, almond-shaped, nudish-pink gel polish with possible extension tips, to be exact.
People immediately questioned how a seemingly fresh gel manicure made its way to 1885…
The whole thing sparked a surprisingly intense debate about historical accuracy in period pieces, with some people genuinely baffled that the nails went unnoticed throughout an entire movie production.
But nobody involved with the movie publicly said much about it until now. With Enola Holmes 3 officially out and the cast making their press rounds, Millie has finally addressed the Great Manicure Scandal of 2026.
While discussing Enola’s beauty choices in a recent video with Allure, Millie jokingly said, “God forbid a girl gets a manicure.”
But Millie got much more candid about the criticism in another interview with the BBC. She said, “How bleak and boring of the internet. I love a good manicure, and so does Enola […] I wasn’t disappointed, but I was like, ‘Oh, OK, that’s what the articles are about.'”
“But then again, the internet does not surprise me these days,” she continued. “I’ve been through it on the internet.”
Howeverrrrr, it was Millie’s broader take on movie details that reallyyyy got the internet talking again.
Millie explained that when she watches a movie, she doesn’t focus on things like whether a wig is slightly misplaced or other production details. Instead, she called nitpicking “so boring” and suggested that audiences should appreciate the larger work of art rather than search for tiny mistakes.
And let’s just say…that just pissed people off even more.
Enola Holmes 3 director Philip Barantini appeared similarly unbothered by the whole thing, saying during the BBC interview, “Maybe they do [matter] for some people, but it made me laugh.”
“We just live in a world where everyone is hyper-aware and they find something to zone in on, and it becomes a huge thing,” he added.
So, there you have it. The internet wanted answers about Enola Holmes’s suspiciously trendy manicure, and they got them…just apparently not the ones they wanted 😭.
What do you think? Is Millie right that people are being ridiculous for hyper-focusing, or should a major Netflix production be expected to get things like this right? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
