Scots actor Richard Madden is to star in a new thriller – with a storyline similar to his breakthrough role in the BBC thriller, Bodyguard.

This time the 40-year-old is in an Amazon hostage drama called Trauma.

Madden will play Jim Marchant, a former Royal Marine medic turned doctor, who must rescue patients after terrorists seize a London hospital during a visit from the Prime Minister.

He won a Golden Globe for his role as an ex-soldier turned special protection officer David Budd tasked with protecting the home secretary (Keeley Hawes) for the BBC series.

The Scot will also take an executive producer role for Trauma which will air on Prime in the UK and be distributed internationally by Paramount+. 

Jane Wiseman, head of originals for Paramount+, said the show’s creator, Geoff Bussetil, ‘has crafted a nailbiting thriller that puts our audience inside one impossible night with a hero played by the incredibly talented Richard Madden.

Madden, of Elderslie, Renfrewshire, originally found fame in Game of Thrones.

After his Bodyguard fame, Madden was widely touted as a possible successor to Daniel Craig as the next James Bond.

However, he said of the rumours: ‘It’s very flattering to be involved in that conversation at all. But it’s all talk and next week I’m sure it’ll be someone different.’

He also starred in an action-packed spy series Citatel further fuelling the rumours he’s in line to fill in the shoes of 007 as the first Scot since Sean Connery first brought Ian Fleming’s secret agent to life on silver screen.

Madden got his first acting gig at the age of 13 when he was cast to play Andy in the 2000 film Complicity and once said of his work ethic: ‘I’ve been fortunate to play different roles. It has been an exciting journey and hopefully will keep going.’
