Jurassic World (2015)
The film that rebooted the dinosaurs
Over two decades after Jurassic Park, this movie actually showed what would happen if a theme park filled with dinosaurs opened up to the public. But like the original film, things don’t go as planned. All the exhibits break loose, including the new genetically modified Indominus rex, making for some thrilling dino-induced chaos.
The Jurassic Park reboots didn’t quite live up to the hype, as they lacked the wit and wonder of Steven Spielberg’s original film. Though Jurassic World didn’t reinvent the wheel with its derivative story, it still ranks among the best movies in the franchise. Unsurprisingly, Jurassic World made over $1.6 billion in theaters, becoming one of the highest-grossing films of all time, according to Box Office Mojo.

The best worst-kept secret in the universe
If only I had my own neuralyzer so I could experience this film for the first time again. Based on the classic comic book series, Men in Black follows a hotshot cop who, after encountering an alien on the job, gets recruited to the top-secret organization monitoring extraterrestrials on Earth.
Blending buddy cop comedy with alien-themed adventure, Men in Black movie remains a classic cornerstone of the sci-fi genre. With Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones’ stellar chemistry as Agents J and K, you’ll never get tired of watching this film again and again. However, if you’re in the mood for more Men in Black afterward, you can also stream the franchise’s two sequels featuring Smith and Jones on Tubi.

High Life (2018)
An eerie, immersive space odyssey
If you’re not in the mood for traditional blockbusters, High Life provides an art house sci-fi experience that cinephiles should enjoy. Starring Robert Pattinson and Mia Goth, this A24 film follows a group of convicts serving commuted sentences onboard a research spaceship who slowly die off en route to study a black hole.
High Life is a dark, unsettling story of a group of people who unravel as they steer closer to death in the lonely void of space. At the same time, it’s an engaging story about a man redeeming himself with a second life as a father, despite his bleak existence. Overall, High Life is an underrated piece of cinema, with Pattinson’s performance single-handedly making it worth a watch.

Ghostbusters II (1989)
The ghosts just won’t stay dead
In the sequel to 1984’s Ghostbusters, Venkman, Ray, Egon, and Winston try to restore their business and reputation as another evil spirit threatens to destroy New York City. Ghostbusters II repeats much of what is shown in the franchise’s first film. However, that doesn’t make it any less of a fun or hilarious sci-fi adventure.
The Ghostbusters are as terrific as ever, with impeccable comedic timing and high-concept antics that make them some of cinema’s finest. The sequel also features the iconic Rick Moranis appearing in a bigger supporting role. On top of that, you love the guys piloting a giant Statue of Liberty with Jackie Wilson singing in the background. It may not be as incredible as its predecessor, but Ghostbusters II is still an entertaining film.
