Rhaenyra’s first marriage was to her cousin, Ser Laenor Velaryon, a union arranged to strengthen ties between Houses Targaryen and Velaryon. Together, they had three sons: Jacaerys, Lucerys, and Joffrey Velaryon. Officially, these boys were recognized as Laenor’s heirs, but House of the Dragon and George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood make it clear that their biological father was Ser Harwin Strong, the captain of the City Watch.

Despite the rumors of illegitimacy, all three were raised as Velaryons and bonded closely with their dragons—Jacaerys with Vermax, Lucerys with Arrax, and Joffrey with Tyraxes.
