One thing about a New York Knicks fan: They’re going to let you know they are a Knicks fan every single chance they get. Especially when their beloved NBA team makes the playoffs.
In an interview with La La Anthony on the Vogue Met Gala livestream, Ben said that even though he chose to attend the biggest event in fashion, he had his eye on his beloved Knicks as they continue their playoff run. “Well, you know, if you can’t be at Madison Square Garden watching the Knicks win their first playoff game vs. the 76ers — Knicks in six — this is a great second choice,” he said.
But that wasn’t enough dedication for some Knicks fans. Ben was called out for choosing the Met Gala over Monday’s playoff game:
“Your superfan would rather play dress up than attend to game 1? Not good”
“Is he even a real fan if Timmy was at the game? Lol”
To the people who questioned Ben’s loyalty, the Knicks fanatic slapped back with a simple message on Twitter: “Bring it I know who i am”
Thankfully for Ben, his choice to attend the Met Gala instead of the Knicks game on Monday may have played in his favor: the Knicks beat the Philadelphia 76ers 137–98.
To that great news, Ben tweeted: “I guess i have to go to Met ball Wednesday.”
Fans celebrated the W alongside Ben, but also gave him a little heat for choosing the Met Gala over the Knicks playoff game:
“Just wear the same outfit to the game (same for Christine)”
“I think you’ve been sentenced to attend the Mets game.”
“You absolutely do, dress to the 9’s and stand there while the Knicks win”
Look, as a New Yorker and a lifelong Knicks fan who’s seen Ben Stiller’s dedication to the orange and blue for all of these years, the man owes us nothing.
