Ben Affleck Claims His $587M AI Deal With Netflix Means a Lot More Than Just Money

Ben Affleck is about to have a whole lot more reason to smile. The actor-filmmaker has landed a mega-deal with Netflix. Netflix has acquired Affleck’s AI-powered filmmaking startup, InterPositive, in a reported $587 million all-cash deal, bringing its advanced post-production, visual, and editorial tools into the fold. Although Affleck was already worth an estimated $300 million, this deal is structurally designed to line his pockets for years to come.

Still, Affleck is not just chasing the check. His ambitions with InterPositive seem to run much deeper.

Ben Affleck shares what his Netflix partnership means

Ben Affleck is bringing Hollywood’s filmmaking muscle together with some cutting-edge technology. In a recent interview with One More Question and GQ, the actor shed some light on his vision and why Netflix made sense for it. For Affleck, the streamer, pairing massive scale and a tech-forward mindset, seemingly checks both boxes with an approach that fits his own philosophy on ethical filmmaking.

“The thing that I really cared about was not just contributing to the sense of the extraxtion, but Netflix, they film studio, they make movies.”

“It’s a way of enshrining this technology inside a space that does exist for all of its failings,” Affleck added in the One More Question and GQ interview.

Affleck was already firmly in Netflix’s creative orbit. This makes the acquisition feel like a natural extension of their existing relationship. The deal also gave him the chance to put InterPositive’s technology to work almost immediately. Affleck tapped heavily into the company’s AI-powered post-production tools for his upcoming Netflix thriller, Animals, too.

The partnership puts purpose-built AI automation designed for filmmakers directly into Netflix’s production pipeline.

What InterPositive brings to the table

InterPositive, the AI company founded by Ben Affleck, is taking a decidedly filmmaker-first approach to artificial intelligence. Rather than looking to replace actors or conjure up synthetic video from scratch, the company is focused on building purpose-built AI tools that can help filmmakers tackle the more tedious, time-consuming side of post-production.

The idea is to use AI as a powerful filmmaking tool that can take some of the most expensive and labor-intensive bottlenecks off a production’s plate. Rather than leaning on massive generative models trained on content from across the internet, InterPositive takes a more targeted approach, training smaller, custom AI models on footage captured specifically for each film on set.
