The first of Alan Jones’ six alleged victims will enter the witness box for a second day after laying bare the pain and fear he says he experienced at the radio giant’s hands.

The 85-year-old is facing the first week of a months-long Local Court hearing after he pleaded not guilty to 22 counts of indecent assault and sexual touching without consent.

Six men allege Jones indecently assaulted or sexually touched them between 2003 and 2020 at locations across Sydney and the NSW Southern Highlands.

None of the complainants can be identified for legal reasons.

Jones met one of the men when he was aged 14 and a rising athletic star, Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court was told on Monday.

Jones had praised the athlete before giving him a phone so they could stay in contact, the man said.

He said he was ‘blown away’ when the former Wallabies coach later gave him a car and began to pay him $400 a week so he could focus on sport.

‘(He said) I didn’t need to tell anyone about it because it was a gift,’ the athlete said.

The payments increased to $600 a week after Jones allegedly indecently assaulted him, the court was told.

‘You’ve been a really good boy. I’m going to give you some more money,’ the athlete claims Jones said after an unwanted and ‘smothering’ kiss.

During his first day of evidence, the complainant described feeling intense pain when Jones allegedly grabbed his genitals while he was driving and squeezed them tight, causing him to veer off the road.

‘I was trapped,’ he said.

‘I had one of the most powerful men in the country in the car. I had to focus on the road.’

He had not consented to the groping and was uncomfortable that it might happen again, the athlete said.

But he was also worried about the ramifications of standing up to Jones or reporting him.

‘I was fearful of him but I was also accepting these things from him,’ he told the court.

‘Did I say yes to those (advances)? No, I didn’t.

‘Was I doing everything I could to push him away? No, I wasn’t because I didn’t want to lose those things.’

He felt he had to accept he would be on the receiving end of sloppy, ‘chomping’ kisses whenever the two of them had a minute alone in return for financial stability.

The athlete was adamant he had not consented to any of the kisses or sexual misconduct Jones allegedly thrust upon him over a two-year period, beginning when he was a teenager.

The former teacher has been charged with nine offences against the complainant, all of which he has vehemently denied.

His barrister suggested the athlete may have concocted the allegations against her client, telling the court she would be testing his credibility and reliability in cross-examination.

Jones kept his face expressionless and scribbled copiously in a notebook throughout the first day of the hearing.

The hearing continues before Judge Glenn Walsh on Tuesday.
