At least eight people, including four children, were injured in a mass shooting in New York during Fourth of July celebrations.
At around 10:30 p.m. local time on Saturday, July 4, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of West 30th Street and Surf Avenue in Brooklyn's Coney Island, ABC News, NBC New York and Reuters reported.
Eight people were injured, including four boys aged six to 14 years old. Two men, aged 33 and 37, and two women, aged 21 and 25, were also injured in the shooting, per the outlets.
"All victims were transported by EMS to local area hospitals, where seven people were listed in stable condition," the NYPD told ABC News. "The 21-year-old woman is listed in critical condition."
The victims have not been publicly identified at this time.
Gunshots were heard ringing out during a fireworks display near the boardwalk in Coney Island, according to the New York Post. Police gathered outside SeaPark Apartments after the shooting to help those injured, the outlet reported.
“When I see in the camera I see the cops running with the kids in their hands,” a deli worker on the corner told the NYP. “When I went out I saw one kid was going into the ambulance and I was told there were four inside.”
A firearm was recovered from the scene, the NYPD told ABC News.

It is currently unclear how many gunmen there were or the motive behind the shooting.
No arrests have been made in connection with the incident at this time, per ABC News, NBC New York and Reuters.
