£10,000 invested in this UK dividend ETF could unlock a ton of passive income

Investing in dividend-focused exchange-traded funds (ETFs) is one of the easiest ways to generate passive income. With these funds, an investor can get access to a broad range of dividend-paying stocks and collect regular cash distributions with minimal effort.

Here, I’m going to highlight a dividend ETF that could be of interest to British investors. This product is focused on the UK market and it offers an attractive yield right now.

Should you buy iShares UK Dividend UCITS ETF shares today?

Before you decide, please take a moment to review this report first. Despite ongoing uncertainties from US tariffs to global conflicts, Mark Rogers and his team believe many UK shares still trade at substantial discounts, offering savvy investors plenty of potential opportunities to learn about.

That’s why this could be an ideal time to secure this valuable research – Mark’s analysts have scoured the markets to reveal 5 of his favourite long-term ‘Buys’. Please, don’t make any big decisions before seeing them.

A top UK dividend ETF

The fund in focus today is the iShares UK Dividend UCITS ETF (LSE: IUKD). This provides exposure to 50 dividend stocks within the UK market.

Its benchmark is the FTSE UK Dividend+ Index, designed to represent the performance of the 50 highest-yielding companies in the FTSE 350 index, excluding investment trusts.

Investors will recognise many of the holdings in the ETF. Top holdings, for example, include Legal & General Group, BP, British American Tobacco, and HSBC.

There are also plenty of stocks that aren’t so well known, however. Examples here include Harbour Energy, Energean, and Primary Health Properties.

An attractive yield

In terms of income, distributions are paid four times a year – in March, June, September and December. You have to have owned the ETF for a few weeks before each payout to be eligible.

Zooming in on the last four payouts, they have been 0.1321p, 0.0906p, 0.0402p, and 0.2114p per share. That comes to a total of 0.4743p per share. Given that the ETF’s share price is 1,045p today, those payouts equate to a trailing dividend yield of 4.5%. On a £10,000 investment, that’s about £450 in income a year.

Payouts are variable however, so there’s no guarantee that income levels will continue to be this high.

Gains on offer too

Of course, there’s potential for capital gains here too. Over the last five years, the ETF’s share price has risen about 40%.

That said, there’s also potential for capital losses. If the UK stock market was to take a hit, its share price would most likely fall and this could offset any gains from income received.

Weakness in UK bank stocks and insurers could also lead to underperformance. Because the ETF has quite a bit of exposure here – at present, over 40% of the portfolio is allocated to Financials.

One other issue to be aware of is that the ETF could lag the broader market. Sometimes, high-yielding dividend stocks underperform relative to other stocks.

What are the fees like?

As for fees, these are 0.4% a year. That’s a relatively high fee for an ETF. Today, there are plenty of UK ETFs with fees of 0.20% or less. Most of these just track the market however, and don’t focus on dividends.

Worth a closer look?

Overall, I see quite a bit of appeal in this ETF. If an investor’s seeking passive income, I believe it’s worth considering. It’s not perfect, but it could work well as part of a diversified portfolio.
