Your Fire TV is about to get a more powerful Prime Video experience ‣ Diverse Daily

I think it’s fair to say that Fire TV has gone through a lot of changes over the past year.

Last year, Amazon introduced Vega OS, its new Linux-based operating system for Fire TV devices. It debuted on the new Fire TV Stick 4K Select in October and the new Fire TV Stick HD in April. However, it quickly became controversial because Vega OS doesn’t support sideloading apps, unlike Fire OS. At the same time, Amazon rolled out a completely redesigned Fire TV interface for both Fire OS and Vega OS devices, bringing a fresh look and feel while improving overall performance.

Now, Amazon is making another major change to Fire TV, this time focused on one of the platform’s core apps: Prime Video.

In a recent blog post, Amazon announced a new Prime Video update rolling out to Fire TVs that will integrate Luna, the company’s cloud gaming platform, directly into the app. The update adds a new “Games” tab to the top menu bar in Prime Video, giving users a dedicated place to browse and launch Luna games without opening a separate app.

That means if you have a Fire TV and a Prime subscription, you’ll be able to start playing a wide range of games, including AAA titles, directly on Prime Video at no extra cost.

Amazon says Luna on Prime Video is now rolling out to Fire TVs in the US and UK.

Unfortunately, this update doesn’t include Fire TV Sticks. However, Amazon says support for “additional devices, countries, and games” will be announced later this year, so there’s a good chance Fire Stick support is on the way. Until then, Fire Stick users can still stream Luna games through the standalone Luna app.

As for what you can play, the lineup is surprisingly solid, with AAA games like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Hogwarts Legacy, Fallout 4, and Death Stranding all available.

To use Luna, you’ll need either a Luna Standard or Luna Premium subscription. The good news is that Prime members already get Luna Standard included with their membership, meaning you can start streaming games through Prime Video at no extra cost. To control games, you can either use your phone through the Luna Controller app or connect a Bluetooth controller, such as an Xbox or PlayStation controller, to your TV.

I’ve used Luna before to play Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and I came away impressed. Does it look as good as running the game natively on a console or gaming PC? No. But for a cloud gaming service, it performs well, looks decent, and if you don’t own a console or gaming PC, it’s a genuinely viable way to play AAA games.

Luna isn’t the only cloud gaming option on Fire TV, either. The Xbox app lets you stream Xbox games with an Xbox Game Pass subscription, while owners of the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus and Fire TV Stick 4K Max can also stream PC games through Nvidia GeForce Now.
