World Cup US driver whose poignant Three Lions poem touched the heart of Jude Bellingham is revealed

This is the mystery England World Cup team bus driver who penned a poem to Three Lions legend Jude Bellingham.

Michael Chandler wrote the four-page ode to the England squad after they were knocked out by Argentina in the semi-final this week.

Writing on his personal Instagram account, Bellingham shared a moving poem written by Mr Chandler, which he felt perfectly captured his emotions during their time in Kansas.

Bellingham, who scored six goals in the tournament and was England’s star player, said: ‘Was really struggling to find the right words for yesterday [semi-final] and the last few weeks, but this pretty much hits the nail on the head from our driver in Kansas.’

The touching poem called Lions Way by Mr Chandler was uploaded by Bellingham. It highlighted the vital importance of mental resilience, self-control, and squad unity when facing adversity on the pitch.

It opens with the lines: ‘The Lion does not boast aloud, or chase the praise of every crowd. He knows the roar that shakes the night is born when fear is met with might.’

Writing on an England fans Facebook page, Mr Chandler also paid tribute to England and fans, saying they were ‘blessed’ to have such a team and urged the country to give them a hero’s welcome when they return.

He said, ‘Team England Three Lions.

‘Show them the love and devotion of a grateful country.

‘I’ve been humbled to be their team driver through the ups and downs. Never once did they waver from being stellar gentleman.’ (sic)

He added: ‘Over the past weeks, I was fortunate to be the dedicated team driver for the England National team in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

‘The experience inspired me to document the Three Lions matches in poetry. The last one written, I felt the need to give to Jude Bellingham, and in return, he honoured me by posting it to his Instagram page.

‘There are just no words to fully express the level of humbleness and grace all of the players have exemplified throughout the victories and losses.

‘They are the truest examples of what honour looks like. Thank you, Lions, for allowing me to be a part of your journey.’
