A woman’s body has been found at a busy Gold Coast beach after members of the public spotted her in the surf and brought her ashore.
Emergency services were called to Crystal Beach on Golden Four Drive at Tugun about 11.30am on Thursday, where the body of a young woman had been located in the water.
‘Police are investigating after the body of a woman was located in waters off Tugun today, 18 June,’ Queensland Police said in a statement.
Acting Inspector Peter Venz said bystanders made the grim discovery before pulling the woman from the ocean.
‘Police received a phone call from members of the public, who had located a female adult that was in the surf and was deceased,’ he said.
‘Those members of the public managed to pull that deceased person up onto the beach.’
Investigators are now working to identify the woman and determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
‘We currently have police four drives down on the beach, patrolling the beach, looking to see if there’s any belongings or towels or anything that could be located on the beach,’ Acting Inspector Venz said.
