A young Hawaii woman screamed in terror while a man tried to kidnap her in broad daylight.

The attempted kidnapping occurred around noon on Monday at a condominium parking lot in Honolulu.

Surveillance footage captured an unidentified 24-year-old woman walking into a garage with her 77-year-old friend before an intimidating large man, later identified by police as Diesel Kawelo, 23, came up behind them.

The video shows Kawelo getting close to the women before they turn around and start backing away while he continues approaching them.

He then tries to grab the younger woman’s arm before she starts running away, and he chases after her. The other woman was left standing helplessly in the garage.

The footage then cuts to an exterior camera showing Kawelo carrying the young woman while she flails around and struggles to escape from his grasp.

The woman’s elderly friend, who asked not to be named, told Hawaii News Now: ‘I was yelling, “Help! Help!” and she was yelling, too. She was saying, “You don’t want to do this. Don’t do this.”‘

She added: ‘He looked like a monster. He just had so much hatred and craziness in his eyes.’

Neighbors in the condo complex thankfully heard the screams and cries for help.

One of the condo residents, Mike Finkelstein, told Hawaii News Now: ‘I yelled at him, “Let her go. I’ve called the police. I’m coming down there after you.”‘

Another resident named Beverly Louis told the outlet: ‘I could see, right here, a man bear hugging a woman and dragging her to the back of his truck.

‘And I heard neighbors screaming, so I just started screaming, “Drop her! Drop her! Drop her!” And she was screaming for her life. She was terrified.’

The surveillance footage shows a man running over to Kawelo and his victim before she broke free. The deranged man then got into his truck and rapidly reversed out of the parking lot.

Police arrested Kawelo three hours later after finding him running naked down a nearby street.

He was taken into custody and charged with kidnapping and second-degree assault. His bond was set at $500,000.

Kawelo appeared in court for the first time on Thursday. He was barefoot and shackled around the ankles, and he stayed silent during the appearance, Hawaii News Now reported.
