However, writer Craig Mazin has now addressed the possibility, and his answer may not be what fans were hoping to hear.

Craig Mazin breaks silence on The Sheep Detectives sequel

Speaking with Collider, Craig Mazin acknowledged that a second novel centered on Rebecca already exists but admitted he is not eager to return behind the keyboard. While he said any sequel would ultimately depend on how audiences embrace the first film, the writer explained that he has grown fond of leaving the story exactly as it is rather than risking what already works. He even suggested that, if another adaptation ever moves forward, someone else might be better suited to take the reins.

 “I feel like maybe I’ll leave this one just as it is. Maybe somebody else will take a turn at it.” Mazin told Collider.

Mazin’s hesitation was not rooted in a lack of affection for the project. Instead, he further revealed to Collider that he loves The Sheep Detectives so much that he isn’t sure he wants to “push his luck” by revisiting it. Having written the screenplay nearly a decade before the film finally reached theaters, the project now carries enough emotional distance that he’s content simply watching audiences discover it for the first time.

Interestingly, with The Sheep Detectives steadily winning hearts across the globe, the growing conversation around a sequel isn’t entirely surprising.
