Why Bailey Smith will be BANNED from driving in latest controversy to rock the Geelong Cats superstar

AFL superstar Bailey Smith won’t be able to drive for the next few months after he was caught 20km/h over the speed limit during Victoria’s recent bushfires.

Geelong midfielder Smith was busted travelling at 125km/h near his house this week.

Smith, 25, was reportedly concerned about the animals living on his 5.8 hectare home in Bellbrae, on the Great Ocean Road, when he was nabbed.

With the pending loss of demerit points, Smith will soon be without a licence.

It means Smith will likely be off the road for a minimum of three months.

A number of controversies have engulfed the football star in recent months after he was viewed in some quarters as homophobic. He also swore at a veteran female photographer last season.

Mitch Brown, the first AFL player to come out as bisexual, branded Smith a ‘loser’ after the Geelong star’s Brokeback Mountain social media post during Mad Monday celebrations last year.

Smith posted a photo of himself with teammate Patrick Dangerfield beneath a caption referencing the film Brokeback Mountain which offended Brown.

‘This is what losing a granny (grand final) does to ya,’ Smith wrote.

‘Or Brokeback Mountain, depends how ya look at it.’

Future Mad Monday celebrations were then cancelled after the controversy erupted.

Earlier last year, Smith swore at a female Geelong Advertiser photographer, telling she did a ‘f*****g s**t job’.

Smith clashed with snapper Alison Wynd and was pictured giving the ‘bird’ to the camera while receiving treatment on his back.

He told Wynd to ‘stop trying to bait me’ and said his treatment was a ‘private moment’, despite the fact training was made open to the media.

The incident unfolded in front of journalists and other photographers.

AFL CEO Andrew Dillon later confirmed he spoke to Smith about his off-field conduct and social media content.

The footy star set hearts racing in July when he announced he had joined Tinder.

He then partnered with ‘former flame’ and influencer Tammy Hembrow in December to promote the popular dating app.

Last month, the bachelor was spotted on what appeared to be a beach date in Manly, on Sydney’s northern beaches, with a mystery blonde.

And on February 1, the Daily Mail caught him flying into Melbourne accompanied by the same woman, who was later exclusively revealed to be Holly Kleverlaan.

True to form, Smith – who is preparing for the 2026 AFL season following a bruising grand final defeat to the Brisbane Lions last September – looked less than thrilled to see our snapper, offering a one‑fingered salute once he noticed the camera.
