Evil Dead Burn introduces a host of new characters to the franchise, but few leave a lasting impression quite like Thya. What begins as a seemingly ordinary supporting role quickly evolves into one of the film’s most shocking and unforgettable storylines, making her one of the standout additions to the Evil Dead universe. Directed by Sébastien Vanicek, the latest installment expands the mythology established by Evil Dead (2013) and Evil Dead Rise, while delivering the gruesome body horror fans have come to expect.   

At the heart of the Price family’s nightmare is Thya, whose tragic fate becomes a turning point in the film.

Who is Thya in Evil Dead Burn?

Thya, played by Luciane Buchanan, is introduced as the girlfriend of Joseph Price and one of Alice Price’s closest friends. She first appears during Joseph’s birthday celebration, where Alice gifts him a collection of photographs she has taken of Thya, immediately highlighting the close bond the two women share.

Following William Price’s funeral, Thya accompanies the family to their secluded countryside home, where she quickly proves herself to be a caring and compassionate presence. She even helps look after Joseph’s elderly grandmother, Polly, despite Polly’s dementia causing her to repeatedly mistake Thya for a thief trying to steal her money.

Unlike many characters in the Evil Dead franchise who are drawn into supernatural chaos by chance, Thya becomes emotionally connected to every member of the Price family before the Kandarian curse takes hold. That sense of familiarity makes what follows even more devastating.

What happens to Thya in Evil Dead Burn?

Thya’s life takes a horrifying turn after Edgar Price becomes possessed by the Kandarian Demon. While attempting to drive him to the hospital alongside Joseph, she is caught in a brutal attack that ultimately claims her life, making her one of the demon’s first major victims.

Her story, however, is far from over. Shortly after her death, Thya returns to the Price home as a Deadite, delivering one of the film’s most unsettling sequences. From mockingly raising a candle in a twisted toast to manipulating Joseph with moments of fake vulnerability, Deadite Thya proves to be far more calculating than a mindless monster. She exploits Polly’s dementia to escape captivity, stalks the family from the ceiling, and continues spreading terror throughout the house, cementing herself as one of the film’s most memorable antagonists.

Although Joseph and Alice eventually destroy her physical body, Thya’s transformation marks a major turning point in the story. By then, the Kandarian curse has already spread to other members of the Price family, ensuring the nightmare continues long after her defeat.

Her role also highlights one of Evil Dead Burn‘s biggest revelations—that the modern Evil Dead films exist within the same shared universe. While Thya does not survive the events of the movie, her tragic arc and terrifying Deadite form make her one of the franchise’s most unforgettable new characters, proving that Evil Dead Burn continues to find fresh ways to reinvent horror.
