Director Destin Daniel Cretton officially shared about Sanja
Milkovic Hays, the costume designer for the highly anticipated film,
Spider-Man:
Brand New Day
. Long before entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Hays earned a master’s degree in architecture at the University of Zagreb in Croatia. She transitioned into European cinema before relocating to the United States with her filmmaker husband, John Hays. She began her Hollywood career in 1987, supervising early projects like The Blob.

The director utilized his Instagram account (@destindaniel) to celebrate her
involvement. The filmmaker expressed immense gratitude for the collaboration
and high artistic quality brought by the wardrobe department.

“Sanja and her talented team worked tirelessly to create all
the iconic costumes of
BND. It was a huge revelation to see how
difficult and intricate it was to design and build Spider-Man’s suit in this
movie,” he wrote in the Instagram caption.  He also shared how she and her team went
on multiple efforts for the perfect and final result.

“Without any layers to hide things, every stitch and seam is
exposed. They went through countless renditions of the new suit until the fit
was perfect for
Tom Holland, the blue had the right amount of glow, and every
web was in its exact position,” he added.

Before designing Tom Holland’s newest look, Hays faced the daunting task of bringing Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield back into their iconic suits for Spider-Man: No Way Home. The original patterns and digital files for Tobey’s 2002 suit and Andrew’s 2014 suit were either lost or outdated. Hays had to carefully study archival footage and photos to reverse-engineer and recreate the classic suits from scratch, ensuring they fit the actors perfectly, as reported by Discussing Films (2022).

Her early professional achievements quickly paved the way
for decades of blockbuster cinematic success.
