Fans can anticipate sharp satire mixed with grounded
superhero lore. It confirmed that Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault are directing
the upcoming HBO Max series. Pitching the project alongside Peter Safran, Gunn
described it as a truly special foray into true-crime comedy
in his X post.

“Our first foray into the true crime genre,” he wrote for the true crime narrative.

According to the Daily Planet announcement,  shared by James Gunn in his official X post, the
8-part documentary series, 
The People v. Gorilla Grodd, re-examines the high-profile trial of Gorilla Grodd.
Directed in-universe by Jimmy Olsen, the project offers unprecedented access to
Grodd inside Stryker’s Island Penitentiary. The story investigates his 2021
conviction regarding the m***** of King Grodd.

Grodd has consistently maintained his innocence regarding
his father’s death and brain consumption. The series features fresh reporting
from Daily Planet journalists, legal experts, and defense counsel. Supervising
producer Perry White noted that deeper investigation reveals complex layers
beneath the hyper-intelligent primate’s public reputation.
