A mouse was pictured standing on its tiptoes and using mushrooms as a stool as it reached for food.

A woodmouse was seen in an adorable snap reaching to grab its food.

The tiny creature grabbed onto the plant with its front limbs, while stretching one leg out for balance and another on tiptoes, creating a dancer-like pose as it foraged for food. 

It was seen by wildlife photographer Martin England, 64, who encountered the mice in Dumfriesshire, Scotland.

He said the inquisitive mice are enjoyable to photograph, and their behaviour around the toadstools and mushrooms made for brilliant shots.

In one image, he said it appeared as if a mouse was playing the drums as it stood upright with two front limbs on two toadstools.

Another appeared more like a ballerina as it stood on its tiptoes.

Mr England said: ‘To get these little mice in shot, I settled down close to where I know they’ve been exploring and after laying out a little food, waited and let the woodmice do their thing, just exploring and being curious. 

‘They were reaching up to the ivy over the toadstools. I’ve found mice are naturally very inquisitive, so will investigate their surroundings thoroughly. 

‘I love how they look when they are the other side of the toadstools to me, as they look like they’re playing the drums.

‘This was my first time photographing woodmice, and I found it a bit of a challenge as they are so small and move so quickly. 

‘While I was getting my shots, I wasn’t really getting a proper look at what they were doing, but it seemed like they were dancing around on their tiptoes, like ballerinas.’
