Weeping Casemiro and his crying wife reveal why they decided he must leave Man United – after waiving clause to continue his £375,000-a-week contract

Casemiro and his wife Anna were brought to tears as they said their final goodbyes to Manchester United.

In a farewell documentary released by the club, United stars – including Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot and Matheus Cunha – paid tribute to the midfielder before Casemiro and his wife Anna both sat down for individual interviews.

The documentary travelled through the highs and lows of his time at United, before culminating in an emotional interview recorded before his final game.

Asked how he was feeling ahead of his last game – where he was substituted to a moving standing ovation – Casemiro broke down in floods of tears before composing himself to thank the United fans.

‘I need to say thank you because it was four unbelievable years. I love this club, the fans, the people. Thank you so much.’

The pair were both choked up with Casemiro sobbing as he thanked supporters for four ‘unbelievable’ years, during which United won the FA Cup and EFL Cup.

‘It’s very special and emotional for me. I finish in this moment, but it’s very emotional.’

Casemiro, 34, made 111 appearances for United, scoring 15 goals and signed off with a 3-2 win against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford in May.

United fans made their love clear for Casemiro during his farewell tour, with chants of ‘one more year’ a staple at Old Trafford.

‘As a family, we talked a lot and had to make this difficult decision,’ Anna Casemiro said.

‘But I think it feels like the end of a very beautiful chapter, as I told Casemiro and our family.

‘I think everything about this moment has been beautiful, right?

‘His chant feels like a declaration of love for him. For us, there’s an emptiness in leaving. The love we are receiving through that song means so much.’

Following the World Cup, the Brazilian is expected to complete a move to MLS club Inter Miami on a free transfer after it was decided that the option to extend his £375,000 per week contract at United would not be triggered.

However, the move still hinges on final negotiations over his discovery rights.

Casemiro has agreed a two year contract with option for a third year at David Beckham’s franchise but Miami have still to agree a package with LA Galaxy.

As Daily Mail Sport reported, Galaxy demanded £750,000 ($1million) in compensation for their discovery rights after being the franchise that first instigated contact with the Brazil international.

They also proposed to the 34-year-old a number of contract offers before his head was turned by the prospect of living in Miami and linking up with Argentina captain Lionel Messi.

Talks are now around the £450,000 mark as Miami try and seek a compromise on the figure.

Galaxy, however, have also asked for Miami to be fined £750,000 for breaching discovery rights regulations.
