By now, you’ve probably seen the “Me preparing for the documentary” TikTok trend, where people pretend they’re getting ready for a tell-all interview about a juicy time in their lives. The trend has brought us some hilarious clips so far, and the latest person to give it a try is Vanessa Hudgens.
On Wednesday, Vanessa joined in on the viral trend, posting a TikTok of herself nervously sitting down in front of a kids’ microphone to the sound of dramatic music. The overlayed text reads: “Me preparing for the documentary when they ask how it really was at East High.” Watch it here for the full effect.
This is, of course, a reference to the High School Musical franchise, in which Vanessa played Gabriella Montez across three movies, released in 2006, 2007, and 2008.
Every year that passes, it feels like we’re getting more and more behind-the-scenes details about the making of the HSM movies. However, Vanessa and her former co-star/ex-boyfriend, Zac Efron, don’t share a whole lot about their experiences on set, perhaps due to awkwardness around the end of their off-screen romance, which lasted from 2005 to 2010.
With that in mind, fans are definitely intrigued/terrified by Vanessa’s TikTok and the inference that she has some untold secrets to spill.
OK, for the record, she’s taking part in a trend, and it’s very possible that she’s merely leaning into the bit. However, given how much HSM means to Zillennials, and how rarely Vanessa talks about it in detail, we can’t be blamed for taking this TikTok very, very seriously. One person on Reddit wrote: “OK, but can this actually be a documentary because I want to hear the tea. I know she has sat out of a lot of the recent reunions, so there must be more behind it.”
Another user wrote: “HSM was the first thing I ever really truly stanned for as a child, so when I tell you this would be so serious to me, don’t play Vanessa Anne…..” They were echoed by someone else who said: “Not sure how I feel about this trend as a whole, but I would be sat for this.”
In January this year, neither Zac nor Vanessa attended Disney’s event celebrating the 20th anniversary of the first HSM movie. However, they did both acknowledge the milestone separately. Sharing previously unseen photos from the set, Vanessa wrote on Instagram: “I cannot believe HSM turns 20 today. Thank you to everyone who’s been there since day 1. We’ll always be in this together ❤️❤️❤️.”
Well, all in this together, or not, if there’s tea to be spilled, we wanna hear it!
