Trump rages at Republicans after being stripped of Iran war powers

Donald Trump condemned the Republican lawmakers who voted for a Democratic-led bill that strips him of the power to wage war on Iran.

The House voted 215 to 208 in favor of the war powers resolution, which forces Trump to stop US troops from engaging in further hostilities against Iran unless explicitly authorized by Congress.

The Democratic-led resolution passed after four Republican representatives broke with their party to vote in favor of it.

‘Yesterday, in a meaningless vote, the House voted, 4 bad Republicans and all of the Dumocrats, to limit my War Powers, right in the middle of my final negotiations to end the War with the Islamic Republic of Iran,’ Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Trump accused the Democrats of committing an unpatriotic act, claiming the US holds the upper hand in current negotiations with Iran, before turning his criticism on the dissenting Republicans.

‘The four Republicans, that’s a whole other story – They’re GRANDSTANDERS! They should be ashamed of themselves,’ Trump concluded.

The vote is largely symbolic as any ‌resolution would also have to pass the Senate to become effective, and garner the two-thirds majorities in both chambers to overcome an almost certain Trump veto.

Regardless, it represents the latest setback for Trump in Congress despite his party’s slim majorities in both chambers and reflects growing congressional concern – even among Trump’s Republicans – over the war.
