When Travis Kelce strolled down the tunnel and into Arrowhead Stadium for the first preseason game of his 14th NFL season last month, the world’s attention homed in on one specific aspect of his appearance.
It wasn’t his physique. Nor his fitness levels. It wasn’t even his signature outlandish fashion sense or his customary preseason ‘El Travador’ moustache.
No. It was his left ring finger that commanded attention and the glinting gold wedding band now wrapped around it. It was the latest addition to his jewelry collection, a new ring to join the three he has claimed from the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl triumphs.
Yet, when he steps onto the Arrowhead field for the Chiefs’ 2026 season opener against the Denver Broncos on Monday night, all talk of star-studded nuptials to the biggest pop star on the planet will fade into the background.
Instead, the question on everyone’s lips will be whether he will be walking away from this NFL season with a fifth – and final – ring in his collection.
This offseason has been Kelce’s most significant. Six weeks before wandering down Arrowhead’s tunnel, the tight end was making his way down the aisle, marrying Taylor Swift in a blockbuster celebration at Madison Square Garden in New York City on July 3.

Three months earlier, he entered into another contract. The three-time Super Bowl winner announced that NFL retirement would wait, returning for a 14th season.
Yet, while this season may be his first as a married man, it may also be his last ever. If it is, he is making it count.
2025 was a punishing season for Kelce and the Chiefs. Kansas City missed the playoffs for the first time since 2014 – Kelce’s second season in the league – their fate sealed by a loss to divisional rivals the Los Angeles Chargers in December, a game which saw Patrick Mahomes fall to an ACL injury.
Kelce, an elder statesman in the Chiefs locker room, was guilty of a number of game-altering errors. He dropped a pass near the goal line in a Week 2 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Another came against the Texans in the game that all but sealed Kansas City’s playoff fate.
‘Travis is leaning into this year with so much more of an open mind and perspective because the rest of his life is set in stone,’ an insider told the Daily Mail.
‘Football has been a part of his life forever, but the loss of Patrick last year and his performance on the field really upset him. He didn’t want to end things that way.
‘Although this season will likely be his last, he wanted to make sure he was in the best shape of his life no matter what.’
The source added: ‘All bets are off. He is anticipating it to be the best season ever. That’s easier said than done, but that is the goal, and the mentality he is in right now.
Kelce has won three Super Bowls during a remarkable career with the Kansas City Chiefs
But the 2025 season ended in disaster with Kansas City finishing 6-11 and missing the playoffs
‘He had his dream wedding, his social life is stuff of legend, he’s seen the promised land in his professional life, and he wants to secure at least one more of those moments this year.’
Kelce, it appears, is determined to right his wrongs. If he’s going out, he’s going out on top. But Kelce may find that harder than expected.
Over the past decade, Kelce has developed a reputation as one of the greatest in his position. Dodging and weaving past opposition defenses, his route-running rivals legendary tight ends.
But now, three weeks shy of turning 37, Kelce is learning that there is no defender harder to shake than Father Time.
Kelce’s new wedding ring wasn’t the only aspect of his appearance that raised eyebrows during training season. Fans pounced on the veteran, claiming he had finally succumbed to a ‘dad bod,’ many joking that his new wife was ‘feeding him well.’
He was also shrouded in whispered claims from around the league that he is ‘done’ and his career ‘over.’
But when Kelce’s career is officially ‘over’ is a decision only he can make and one that reportedly hinges on the Chiefs’ start to the season.
‘Several weeks from now, how he is doing, how the team is doing and hopefully being injury free will solidify [his decision on] next year,’ our insider said.

Fans mocked Kelce for appearing to have a ‘dad bod’ during the Chiefs’ training camp
‘Either way, going into this season as a married man, in the best shape of his life and with Patrick (Mahomes) back, he is like a kid in a candy store.’
Kelce himself has not stated that this will be his last dance. He’s also not said anything to the contrary either.
There have, however, been multiple clues fueling the narrative. The most telling came in the form of a photo shared to Instagram by former NFL star and training associate Cris Carter in July.
The image showed Kelce and his long-time trainers. The caption that accompanied it said that the tight end was preparing for ‘THE LAST DANCE’ alongside ‘Next stop Canton/HOF.’
Then, there was the emergence of the $5million new addition to Kelce and Swift’s property portfolio. It was revealed this month Kelce has purchased a 131-year-old, recently renovated mansion on the Lake Erie shore near Cleveland, Ohio.
The ultra-private, millionaire enclave perhaps provides a forever home for the A-list couple. Another sign that Kelce is preparing to ride off into the sunset with his new bride, bidding farewell to the NFL once and for all.
For her part, Swift is ready for the happily ever after. Kelce’s return to football – beginning with training camp on July 28 – brought a premature end to the couple’s honeymoon era.
‘Taylor is eager to start a family. As much as one would think that Travis would have to be home for that – and yes, he would – she never wants to pressure him to retire,’ the source close to the couple revealed.

‘Have they talked about him being done? Absolutely. But when he is done, he is still going to be a commentator, do movies and be active. So, if he still wants to play after this year, she would be OK with it. She gets to live her dreams, so he should be able to do the same.
‘She would never want him to ever say to her to stop making music and performing, so she is there for him, instead of pressuring him to retire.’
Being forced to spend time apart is nothing uncommon for the newlyweds, whose hectic schedules have provided a challenge ever since they first started dating back in 2023. Swift was on the road with her mammoth world tour while Kelce was hopping from state to state for games.
When he was afforded the time, he joined Swift on the road, jumping onstage for a show in London and even traveling to Buenos Aires, Argentina. They also enjoyed a holiday in Australia.
Swift has spent the past few years juggling work commitments alongside embracing her newfound ‘WAG’ status. She has been crowned the Queen of Chiefs Kingdom, presiding over the NFL dynasty from her beau’s luxury Arrowhead suite with his family and friends. And this season will be no different.
‘She will be at all his games, but she will also be busy herself,’ the insider shared. ‘They have gone through this schedule before, so it is nothing that Taylor is concerned about.
‘She’s looking forward to enjoying everything this year brings. They are newly married; they are doing everything that they love in their professional life. To enjoy these moments is what it is all about.
‘They both know they are very lucky to be in the situation they are in, and they are going to enjoy it all until the wheels fall off. And she loves that they will enjoy it together.’

Cris Carter has claimed on social media that 2026 will be Kelce’s last season in the NFL
Swift is savoring every last moment she can with her NFL beau before the season kicks off. Exclusive photos obtained by the Daily Mail captured the couple emerging from dinner at the Ambassadors Clubhouse in New York on Sunday evening, dressed to the hilt – just over a week before the Chiefs returned to action.
It was one of many pap walks the love birds have taken over the course of their three-year relationship – many of which have fueled accusations of off-field distractions.
Since going public in September 2023, it’s been no secret that the pair’s high-profile romance has made waves of equal proportion in both Hollywood and the sporting world – with every morsel of their cozy date nights and lavish vacations picked over by music and NFL fans alike.
The couple’s jetsetting adventures and lavish nights on the town have coincided with Kelce’s dip in form over the two previous seasons. And NFL analysts pointed the finger at Swift.
For a time, it appeared that the grind of more than a decade in the NFL had begun to take its toll. The ritz and razz of his Hollywood lifestyle too tempting. Had Kelce’s head been turned by the prospect of celebrity?
Kelce has already dipped his toe into TV and film. He took jobs on the big and small screen – presenting ‘Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity,’ appearing in ‘Grotesquerie’ and shooting his cameo in ‘Happy Gilmore 2.’
And even he admitted that his focus had wavered as he juggled his relationship with Swift and took his first steps into TV and film.
But now, his dalliances with the silver screen are on pause. For one more season at least, the spotlight is back on the football field.

Three-time Super Bowl-winner Kelce will turn 37 during the upcoming NFL campaign
Kelce clearly believes he has something left to achieve. A shot at redemption for the Chiefs after a season of misery. He wouldn’t have returned if he thought otherwise. The question is: Is it one roll of the dice too many?
Those athletes who go out on top – including NFL greats Peyton Manning and John Elway, who retired after winning the Super Bowl – are far outweighed by heroes who keep coming back for more.
Even Tom Brady is familiar with that fate, performing a retirement U-turn only for his final season to end in sideline tantrums and divorce.
Kelce will be hoping his final chapter follows a different script.
It is perhaps fitting that this season’s Super Bowl falls on Valentine’s Day. One final win on the NFL’s greatest stage would, as Daily Mail’s source says, ‘be the storybook ending of his career to lead into his forever life with Taylor.’
