Tottenham have announced the deadline day addition of Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk on a season-long loan. 

Mudryk’s 20-month doping ban came to an end in August and he featured briefly in pre-season for the Blues. 

Having joined Chelsea for £89m from Shakhtar Donetsk, Mudryk had not played since November 2024 after failing a doping test for the banned substance meldonium.

The 25-year-old is now clear to resume his career and will do so on loan at Tottenham where he rejoins old boss Roberto de Zerbi.  

‘It’s a great feeling. I can’t wait to start training and playing for the Club, and I’m so excited to be reunited with De Zerbi,’ the Ukrainian said of the move. 

‘I’m a player who brings speed and creativity, and I want to help in both the offensive and defensive areas. I want to make the fans excited.

‘I can see it’s a strong squad here with good players, and I’m looking forward to sharing a pitch and special moments with them.’

De Zerbi said: ‘Having worked with Misha earlier in his career, I know exactly what he can bring to our team.

‘He has the quality to change a game with his speed and ability in one-vs-one situations, and is an exciting, attacking talent.

‘I will demand a lot from Misha and it is our job to help him find the best version of himself. If we do that then he can become a very important player for us. I am very happy he chose to come here, and I cannot wait to work with him again.’

Tottenham faced competition from other Premier League sides for Mydryk, including Leeds, Coventry, Brentford and Sunderland. 

Chelsea are understood to have wanted to send him on loan to sister club Strasbourg but the winger wanted to stay in the English top flight. 

Mudryk, 25, was handed a four-year ban after being charged by the Football Association for failing a doping test but it was ended after a resolution was reached with the FA. 

Mudryk has insisted from the very beginning that he never knowingly or intentionally took a prohibited substance. An important factor in the agreed resolution is the change made by the World Anti-Doping Agency to the scientific reporting standards used by accredited anti-doping laboratories when analysing samples for meldonium.

Mudryk will provide pace and dynamism for Spurs and can play on either flank 

The laboratories use a qualitative testing method, meaning they estimate concentration levels rather than measure them precisely. Following developments in the scientific guidance, WADA increased the reporting threshold to provide greater confidence that samples reported as positive exceed the minimum reporting level.

After being cleared to play, Mudryk posted: ‘After a long battle, the four-year ban that was imposed on me has been rescinded and I am free to resume my career with immediate effect. 

‘I am grateful that this process has reached a conclusion, that I have been cleared to return to football and that I can now look ahead to my future. This has been the most difficult period of my career.’
