When you think of iPad competitors, your mind probably jumps to tablets from the usual suspects like Samsung, Lenovo, OnePlus, or even Amazon’s Kindle Scribe. One brand that probably doesn’t immediately spring to mind is Onn, Walmart’s budget-friendly tech label.
But Onn has been on something of a roll lately. It recently launched a $40 Onn 4K Streaming Device — its first-ever 4K streaming stick — along with the new $60 Onn 4K Pro, its most powerful set-top streamer yet. That device, in particular, has proven wildly popular with anyone looking for a budget-friendly but capable Android-powered streaming box, to the point where Walmart has struggled to keep it in stock since launch.
While streaming gear has been the headline act for Onn, the brand also makes Android tablets, with it having several Android 14 models available over the past year or so. But now, out of nowhere, Onn has launched six brand-new Android 16 tablets (via 9to5Google).
Onn’s new 2026 tablets sit firmly in budget territory, ranging from $100 to $288, but on paper at least, they look surprisingly capable and could finally give Apple’s entry-level iPad, which has dominated the budget tablet space for years, some real competition.
The star of the show is the Onn 13 Pro
It’s the true iPad rival
Of the six new tablets Onn has released, the most exciting model is easily the new Onn 13 Pro, its highest-end offering.
It features a 13-inch IPS LCD display with a 2400 x 1600 pixel resolution, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage, along with an 8-megapixel front-facing camera and a 13-megapixel rear camera. The processor is only listed as a MediaTek chip running at 2.6GHz, so details like core count remain unclear for now. It also ships with Android 16, meaning you’re getting the latest version of Android straight out of the box.
While I can’t speak to real-world performance yet, since I haven’t used it, on paper, it’s hard to argue that this doesn’t look like a fairly capable budget Android tablet, especially given the price. On top of that, it even includes a stylus and folio case, which is a nice bonus at this level. It also has an aluminum build and comes in black, so it does look pretty sleek.

As for Onn’s other new Android 16 tablets, there’s quite a bit of variation across the lineup.
First up is the Onn 11 Core, which is essentially a smaller, less powerful version of the Onn 13 Pro. It features an 11-inch IPS LCD display with a 1840 x 1280 resolution, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, plus a fairly mediocre 2-megapixel front camera and 5-megapixel rear camera. At $167, though, it’s noticeably cheaper than the Onn 13 Pro and comes in four fun colors: Mocha, Navy, Pink, and Silver.
Then there’s the Onn 8.1 Core, which comes with an 8.1-inch 1524 x 1000 IPS LCD display, a Snapdragon 685 chipset, 6GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage. Like the Onn 11 Core, it also uses the same 2-megapixel front camera and 5-megapixel rear camera setup. It’s priced at $138, making it slightly cheaper than the 11 Core, and comes in the same four colors.

Onn’s cheapest new tablet is only $97
The Onn 13 Pro is the way to go
Next up is the Onn 7 Core, the smallest and cheapest model in the lineup. It costs just $97 and includes a 7-inch 1024 x 600 LCD display, which is very low resolution by today’s standards, along with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Personally, I’d avoid this one because the overall quality doesn’t seem worth it, especially when the other models offer noticeably better hardware for not much more money.
Finally, Onn has two other new Android 16 tablets, the Onn 11 Kids and the Onn 8 Kids. As you can tell by the names, they’re meant for kids and also include a thick bumper case to better protect the tablets.
Overall, the Onn 13 Pro is easily the standout tablet in Onn’s new 2026 lineup, and if you’re looking for an Android alternative to Apple’s entry-level iPad, it’s definitely worth a look. The only catch is that it’s already sold out, so if you’re interested, you’ll need to keep an eye out for a restock.
