Tennis heartthrob Matteo Berrettini’s ex-girlfriend has spoken out after internet rumors alleged she cheated on him with his fellow player, Lorenzo Musetti.
The two Italian stars were teammates on the 2024 Davis Cup-winning team, but an awkward TV interview by Berrettini fueled speculation of a fall-out between the pair.
After beating Tomas Martin Etcheverry at the Vienna Open in Austria on Tuesday, Berrettini was asked about Musetti’s recent title win in Lyon and whether it is ‘inspiration’ for him.
Berrettini initially did not respond, then asked: ‘Is it live?’ before offering a restrained response through several pauses and awkward laughs.
He said: ‘It’s okay. I know he worked really hard to come back and I guess he deserved it.’
Berrettini then walked away from the camera, before the internet went into overdrive over the incident.

Internet sleuths spotted that Berrettini, 30, recently unfollowed his countryman on Instagram despite the fact they were once believed to be close friends.
The timing coincides with Berrettini’s split with his ex-girlfriend Vanessa Bellini, who spoke out furiously about theories she cheated on the 2021 Wimbledon runner-up.
A post, written in Italian, was translated to read: ‘I tolerate all the bulls*** you say and write and I let it go (and I read a lot but I learned that this is how the world is made).
‘But to hear that I would have betrayed Matteo, really. Rinse your mouth before you speak.’
Berrettini and Musetti could have faced an awkward semifinal encounter in Vienna if they both progress that far, but Musetti lost to British star Arthur Fery in the Round of 16.
Musetti has stayed silent on the speculation while he and his girlfriend, Veronica Confalonieri, still follow each other on social media.
They have been dating since 2022 and have two sons, Ludovico, two, and Leandro, born in November 2025.
They were pictured together in Tokyo earlier this month, posing for a number of photos he posted online.

Berrettini was left out of Italy’s Davis Cup squad this year by captain Filippo Volandri, who insisted the decision was based entirely on his on-court performances.
‘The next few weeks leading up to our new Davis Cup adventure will be crucial for me,’ he told Italian media per Tennis 365.
‘My entire staff and I will work to assess each player’s condition to determine their availability, so we can field the best possible lineup.
‘We know we have a very strong team, thanks to a wide roster of players, including Matteo Berrettini, Matteo Arnaldi, and Lorenzo Sonego, key players in past seasons.’
