A teacher and coach in Florida was arrested for indecent exposure after witnesses claimed they saw him standing naked in the doorway of his home as he allegedly touched himself.
The Titusville Police Department confirmed in a Facebook post on Tuesday, October 27, that Justin Samson was arrested Saturday, October 24, and was charged with exposure of sexual organs.
Authorities learned of the incident when a witness recorded Samson, 41, with a cellphone as he allegedly stood naked at his home in Titusville, Florida, according to an arrest affidavit viewed by WFTV. The witness then contacted law enforcement and asked that they press charges against Samson.
It’s not currently clear how long Samson was exposed outside and how many witnesses saw him in the alleged act.
Officers reported to the teacher’s home soon after and knocked on the door. Police said that Samson opened the door and was completely nude, according to the affidavit.
The officers then attempted to obtain a statement from Samson, who allegedly closed the door. The officers continued to knock on the door in an effort to get him outside, and he did not return despite their several announcements that they were law enforcement and that he needed to cooperate.
Samson was ultimately arrested at his home, and he made his first appearance in court on Monday, October 26. During the hearing, a judge set his bond at $2,000, per the outlet. A condition of his release was that he is prohibited from having contact with or being near anyone who is younger than 18 years old.
It is not currently clear if Samson has entered a plea or retained legal counsel following his arrest. The Brevard Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to Us’ request for comment regarding updates in the case.
Authorities said that the investigation into the matter remains ongoing.
Samson worked as a teacher at Burns Science and Technology Charter School in Oak Hill, Florida, at the time of his arrest.
The school addressed the incident in an email to parents, explaining that Samson has been placed on administrative leave pending a review of the situation. School leaders added that Samson is not allowed to teach, coach or participate in any school activities as the investigation into the allegations continues.
A spokesperson for the school also addresses the incident in a statement to WFTV, saying that Samson’s alleged crime took place away from campus and none of the students at the school were involved.
