Jeff Probst has spoken too soon.
The longtime Survivor accidentally dropped a huge spoiler during the season 50 finale on May 20, mistakenly bringing out contestant Rizo Velovic to join the voting jury when his elimination in the fire-making challenge had not been aired yet.
“Rizo, you become the final member of our jury,” Jeff announced, before gesturing the New York native to take a seat next to other eliminated players who will vote for the winner. “This is it. These are the people. Their games fell a little short, but this is the group.”
However, Jeff soon realized something was amiss, turning to ask the crowd, “What just happened?”
After being informed by members of the jury that the “fire challenge hasn’t happened yet,” Jeff was met with boos from the studio audience before cutting to commercial.
But like a true professional, the five-time Emmy winner brushed off his onscreen gaffe.
“I love doing live television,” Jeff said when the episode returned from an ad break. “In case you’re confused, this is what happened: We were going to show you fire-making and then have the loser of fire-making, Rizzo, come out and talk about how charming he is.”
