A Texas teen suffered a catastrophic head injury and is in critical condition after falling from a moving vehicle while celebrating a Spurs playoff win.
The incident occurred in San Antonio following the Spurs victory on the evening of Thursday, May 28, according to the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD), per News 4 San Antonio, KSAT and the San Antonio Express-News.
A family member told police that the teen had been celebrating the win when he fell from a vehicle and hit his head, per the outlets.
Police said the teen — whose identity has not been released — was transported to an emergency room before being moved to a another local hospital due to the severity of his injuries, according to News 4 and Express-News.

According to Express-News, a police source who was not authorized to speak publicly told the outlet the teen is not expected to survive.
The circumstances surrounding the fall are currently under investigation, per News 4, KSAT and Express-News.
“The San Antonio Police Department extends our sympathy to the family, friends and loved ones affected by this tragic and preventable incident,” SAPD said in a statement obtained by News 4.

“This serves as an important reminder that public safety is a shared responsibility. We encourage everyone celebrating to follow traffic laws, stay inside of your vehicles and follow directions from the officers who are there to keep everyone safe,” police in the statement.
SAPD did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.
