Somalia-born man, 34, is charged with attempted murder after five people were struck by a car in London

A Somalian-born British man has been charged with five counts of attempted murder, dangerous driving, failing to stop, failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis and criminal damage.

Timir Ahmed Mohamed, 34, of Grange Park, Ealing, has been remanded and will appear in court tomorrow morning.

It follows a police investigation into a serious collision on Ealing Broadway that saw five people injured after they were struck by a car.

Three people were taken to hospital following the collision on Saturday at about 2.30pm.

Pictures from the scene showed a large emergency response, with one victim sitting on a kerb as he was treated by paramedics.

Footage appears to show bystanders trying to stop the car before chasing after it and attempting to open the door as it sped away.

A witness on a local Ealing Facebook group said the car ‘came out of nowhere’ before hitting people waiting at a pedestrian crossing.

Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) London conducted initial inquiries, but the incident is not being treated as terrorism.

A man has now been charged dangerous driving and attempted murder, the Metropolitan Police said.

It is alleged he did not wait at the scene but was stopped in nearby Grange Park ‘a short time later’, the force added.

None of the injuries were life-threatening or life-changing, and the two who were not taken to hospital received treatment at the scene.

The force said: ‘Due to the nature of the incident, local officers were in contact with officers from Counter Terrorism Policing London as they conducted their initial enquiries.

‘While investigators are keeping an open mind as to any potential motive, the incident is not being treated as terrorism.

‘Road closures are in place in the area and could remain in place for some time while the police investigation progresses.’

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson added: ‘We were called at 2.29pm today (27 June) to reports of a road traffic collision in Ealing Broadway, W5.

‘We sent a number of resources including ambulance crews, paramedics in fast response cars, a volunteer emergency responder crew and an incident response officer to the scene. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

‘We treated three patients at the scene and took one of them to a major trauma centre by road as a priority. The other two patients were taken to a local hospital.’
