Silverstone will host the 2027 British Grand Prix on July 4, the Sunday that coincides with the middle weekend of Wimbledon, in a highlight of next year’s Formula One calendar that is due to be released on Wednesday morning.

According to multiple sources, the schedule is also due to name Bahrain as the opening round of the season, which will contain 10 sprints, up from six this year.

Bahrain is pencilled in for March 14 with Saudi Arabia coming the following weekend before the travelling circus decamps to Australia as part of a 24-race programme.

Daily Mail Sport understands that Silverstone bosses have willingly agreed to the early July date and that the circuit’s chief executive Stuart Pringle is content the overlap with Wimbledon is not a concern.

This collision of two iconic British sporting events has been the case in several recent years.

Despite the crossover this July, a crowd of 564,000 attended the Northamptonshire track over the weekend. It was the biggest attendance ever recorded at a Formula One event, eclipsing Adelaide in 1995.

It is understood that the firm intention among F1 executives is that the first round will actually be staged in Bahrain, if world affairs allow, rather than be moved to Malaysia as is happening this year (‘the Bahrain GP in Kuala Lumpur’ on October 4) as the American/Israeli-Iranian war splutters on.

Monaco is expected to stay in its new June slot, back a week from its traditional May date.
