Roku just added 3 free live channels to its lineup

Every day, I grow more fond of streaming services like Pluto TV and Tubi for offering so much free content to watch. The Roku Channel is also high on my streaming list, as it keeps expanding its lineup with channels that specialize in specific films and TV shows, 24/7. With more than 500 free channels available on Roku, there’s a little bit of something for everyone, and the platform has just added a bit more.

According to Cord Cutter News, Roku added three new channels to its digital library today, October 6. This update comes roughly two weeks after the platform added five other free channels to its lineup. Thus, The Roku Channel has continued to grow rapidly by offering audiences more to stream for free, which should appeal to those looking for easier entertainment without paying for subscriptions to expensive services like Netflix, Disney+, and Apple TV.

Roku’s new channels feature programming that spans reality TV, supernatural horror, female-led features, and good old-fashioned detective dramas. The Roku Channel’s latest additions are:

  • Kelsi Davies (channel 3931)
  • Xumo Her Movies (channel 1724)
  • Murdoch Mysteries (channel 2525)

Kelsi Davies is led by the digital content creator of the same name, who is known for exploring reportedly haunted locations and communicating with spirits as a psychic medium. Naturally, her channel specializes in paranormal and lifestyle documentary shows that follow her as she investigates hauntings and supernatural phenomena.

Meanwhile, Xumo Her Movies features classic and modern movies focusing on women from a variety of genres. Titles featured in this category on Xumo’s own streaming service, Xumo Play, include Gypsy, Remember Me, and the Cagney & Lacy movies. Some of my personal favorites are horror movies like Hereditary and Talk to Me.

Murdoch Mysteries is dedicated to the titular detective series, which is itself based on the books by Maureen Jennings. The story follows detective William Murdoch in 1895 Toronto as he uses new and unusual methods to solve murders. First premiering in 2008, this long-running Canadian drama just premiered its 20th season this October, so fans can catch up to the series now on The Roku Channel.

Since The Roku Channel is an ad-supported streaming service, you won’t need to pay to subscribe in order to stream its many channels. All of Roku’s new channels are accessible for free through the platform’s Live Guide. You don’t even need a Roku device in order to stream them. You can go to The Roku Channel through your web browser or the mobile app available on iOS and Android devices.

When you’re on The Roku Channel through your player, you can press the Star (*) button on your device’s remote, select “Jump to Channel” on the pop-up menu, and enter the channel number. The search function, found on the left side of the Live TV Guide, will also let you search for channels by name or genre. If you’re on your browser, just go to The Roku Channel’s homepage, click the “Live TV” tab, or go to the search bar in the top right corner.

Overall, The Roku Channel continues to grow with its ever-expanding list of channels, and it shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon. Since Roku already has over 500 channels on its flagship streaming platform, it continues to surpass competitors like Pluto TV, which has over 250 channels, and Tubi, which has over 260. As a result, The Roku Channel remains one of the biggest free streaming platforms out there.
