After the Democrats shattered Republican hopes across the country with a midterm ‘bluenami’ handing them control of Congress, Trump’s administration is facing intense scrutiny from party members.
Republican senator Ted Cruz described the Democratic sweep as an ‘a**-kicking’ for the GOP in an episode of his podcast on Wednesday, dramatically declaring that ‘it was not simply a bad 2006 midterm election, it was a Watergate-level repudiation.’
The Texas senator said Republicans didn’t do enough to ‘address their very real pain,’ adding that food, gas, diesel, insurance and ‘life’ were all too high. ‘Too many Republican politicians seem like they didn’t understand or they didn’t care,’ he lamented.
While Chief of Staff Susie Wiles and Secretary of State Marco Rubio find themselves under cabinet pressure, it did not take long until calls for a scapegoat to take the blame for one of the most bruising midterm defeats in modern political history got loud.
A White House insider familiar with the President’s phone calls told the Daily Mail that Trump had been canvassing a handful of close advisers whether to get rid of his Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
And those sources now expect Hegseth gone before the new Congress is sworn in next January. As of Thursday morning, Trump insisted he has ‘every intention to keep him.’
