An elderly man walking his dog has died after being brutally attacked with a metal pole during one man’s alleged violent rampage across Bundaberg on Wednesday.
The dog walker, 78, from North Isis was on White Bridge Road at 2.40pm when he was allegedly attacked by a random stranger, suffering fatal injuries and he died at the scene.
His alleged attacker then drove into nearby Childers before he allegedly choked a 66-year-old man with a garden hose until locals intervened and restrained him.
Witnesses said he allegedly appeared to be having a psychotic episode after a series of earlier apparent road rage incidents.
A local police officer ran to the scene where he arrested the 36-year-old and took him into custody.
A family friend of the elderly man who died described him as a ‘very friendly’ guy who loved taking his dog for a walk near where he was attacked.
‘He was a very nice guy, very friendly and outgoing,’ he told the Courier Mail.
‘He was always walking his dog, taking him out for daily walks.

The man then allegedly verbally abused the Tesla driver before driving off.
