Project Hail Mary was one of the biggest surprises at the box office in 2026, and as such has had what can best be described as a non-traditional route to home release. After an extended theatrical run, and a delayed digital release, many were wondering when this blockbuster movie would finally be released on physical media as well as subscription streaming service Amazon Prime Video.
And now, several months after the film’s initial theatrical run, we finally have some answers about the next segment of Project Hail Mary’s home release including its first stop on streaming (which will NOT be Prime Video, in a shocking twist) as well as its long-awaited 4K UHD and Blu-ray debut.
Project Hail Mary is now available to pre-order on 4K UHD and Blu-Ray
No release date has been confirmed but August seems likely
If you’ve been waiting to pre-order Project Hail Mary on 4K UHD, Blu-Ray or DVD, official listings went up this morning on Amazon. Currently there are no ship dates listed for the discs, but Blu-ray.com has the physical release pegged for Aug. 11, which is in line with what was rumored earlier this year.
Both the 4K UHD and the Blu-ray will come with several bonus features, including a commentary track from directors Christoper Miller and Phil Lord, as well as deleted scenes and a featurette centered around the character of Rocky. The 4K UHD release will also include Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision, as well as the IMAX shifting aspect ratio (2.29:1 and 1.85:1) during key scenes.
Though a steelbook edition has long been rumored, no listings for anything beyond the standard edition have appeared just yet.
Project Hail Mary will be hitting MGM+ before Amazon Prime Video

Though most (including myself) assumed that Amazon Prime Video would be the first stop for Project Hail Mary on streaming, the film is taking a surprising detour before it eventually hits Amazon’s ubiquitous service: MGM+. If you haven’t heard of this streaming service before, it is a niche outlet primarily for MGM releases, which include movies like Roofman, American Fiction, and The Running Man, as well as TV shows like From and The Institute.
Project Hail Mary will officially make its debut on MGM+ next week on June 18, and if you don’t subscribe to this service, MGM+ currently offers a 7-day free trial for new subscribers, which you can use to stream this movie for free with no commitments. If you want to stay subscribed, the service costs $8 per month for an ad-free plan. No ad-supported option is available.
Though its first stop is MGM+, Project Hail Mary will eventually be coming to Amazon Prime Video. No announcements have been made just yet, but it seems likely that a debut on Amazon’s much larger service will happen before the holiday season, perhaps after the aforementioned physical release.
