There has been a war of words between two Charleses in recent days amid a row over what was said in the aftermath of Princess Diana’s death.
Charles Spencer claims a furious Prince Charles told him days after his sister’s death, ‘rest assured, we’ll forget her soon enough’, in a devastating memoir – which can be read here on the Daily Mail.
A Palace spokesman last week questioned the veracity of Earl Spencer’s account and said that fraternal grief can ‘cloud reason, affect judgment and colour memory’.
The row is even dividing Daily Mail columnists.
Jan Moir says she just can’t accept that the then-Prince Charles practically revelled in the death of his former wife.
And, A.N. Wilson insists an anecdote Earl Spencer told him years ago makes him 100 per cent sure that Diana’s sister is telling us the truth.
