In the early days of cinema, theaters offered moviegoers two movies for the price of one ticket. Though double features had faded from theaters for quite a while, they have become popular in recent years thanks to the viral “Barbenheimer” phenomenon.
Since then, we have seen double features like Glicked and Backsession, and Dunesday seems set to dominate theaters this December. But now, Pluto TV has done something unique by letting audiences enjoy double features on streaming.
Pluto TV announced that it will launch Double Feature Friday on August 21, 2026. In a partnership with Entertainment Tonight, Pluto TV will stream a “favorite studio classic” alongside a “new indie free streaming premiere” every Friday. Will Gurman, SVP of Content Partnerships and Programming at Pluto TV, said that this will turn the platform into a “weekly movie night destination.”
“Double Feature Fridays pairs a film people already love with one they’re about to discover, then brings in Entertainment Tonight to host the whole night – turning movie night into a ritual our viewers won’t want to miss,” Gurman added.
What’s streaming on Double Feature Fridays?
Pluto TV features beloved classics and new indie releases
Entertainment Tonight correspondent Emily Curl will host Double Feature Fridays on Pluto TV. Each double feature will present rare archival footage courtesy of ET, including never-before-seen on-set interviews and behind-the-scenes videos.
“The stories behind a movie can be just as memorable as the movie itself,” said Curl. “Double Feature Fridays gives us the chance to bring those moments into the experience in a way that’s fun and unexpected, adding a new perspective to familiar favorites while introducing audiences to something new.”
Double Feature Fridays will present popular titles from studios like Paramount, Warner Bros., Lionsgate, Radial Entertainment, and more. This weekly event will debut with the sci-fi films Gravity and The Outer Threat: two movies that depict humans exploring the vastness of space. The presentation of Gravity will also feature an interview with the film’s lead actress, Sandra Bullock, about the challenges of making the movie. It will also look back at when George Clooney joined the film’s cast.
The first batch of Pluto TV’s double features also includes:
- Django Unchained + Outlaw Posse
- John Wick: Chapter 4 + Reckless
- Friday + A Hip Hop Story
- Pitch Perfect + 40 Dates and 40 Nights (2026)
- The Notebook + What’s Love Got to Do with It (2022)
Double Feature Fridays will run weekly through the end of 2026. Pluto TV will wrap up the year with double features that include holiday gems like Bill Murray’s Scrooged and both of Billy Bob Thornton’s Bad Santa movies.
