A pizza delivery driver was shot and killed while dropping off an order at an apartment in North Philadelphia.
According to Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small, the deadly shooting occurred around 12:30 a.m. local time on Friday, June 6, per NBC 10 Philadelphia, WPVI, CBS News and Fox 29 Philadelphia. The 28-year-old driver was making a delivery at the Raymond Rosen Homes along the 2300 block of Edgley Street at the time.
Officers responding to a report of shots fired in the area found the man "lying on the ground unresponsive, bleeding heavily with a gunshot wound to his head," Small said.
The driver was rushed to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just before 1 a.m., per CBS News.
Investigators learned that someone had called in a pizza delivery order to a vacant unit in the housing complex. "From looking at the pizza boxes, we were able to identify the pizza shop," Small said.
WPVI reported that the victim worked for Pete's Pizza.
Officers found three pizza boxes and a bag, which appeared to be untouched, inside the vacant apartment, leading investigators to believe that the driver successfully delivered the items before being shot outside the complex, per WPVI.

Police recovered three spent shell casings at the scene, just inches away from where the victim was found. "Which is an indication that the shooter or shooters were standing very, very close to the victim," Small said.
The victim's delivery vehicle was also located near the scene, with a pizza warmer still inside, per WPVI.
Police told the outlet that surveillance cameras, operated by the Philadelphia Housing Authority, captured portions of the incident. While officials said the shooting was not caught on camera, the pizza delivery driver can be seen in footage walking with the boxes while being followed by two people wearing dark clothing. One of them was carrying a dark backpack.
Police have made no arrests at this time, per WPVI, but Small said investigators have an important lead.
"We do have the phone number that made that pizza delivery," he said.
