One of the women confronted by a suspected sex attacker has spoken out after their dogs saved them from a terrifying ordeal while walking through a Melbourne park in broad daylight.
The two women were walking their dogs along Gardiners Creek at Kooyong’s Righetti Oval on Tuesday morning when a man hiding in bushes ambushed them.
‘That’s when he lunged at my friend and grabbed a hold of her neck and upper shoulders,’ one told Sky News on Thursday.
‘Then he started walking over to me and talking.
‘He was threatening me to get me into the tunnel and he wanted to have sex with me.’
The woman recalled how she tried to focus on surviving the encounter rather than the fear she was feeling.
‘I was thinking of all the different scenarios that could happen, but I was more trying to jump into action rather than focus on how scared I was,’ she said.
The women’s dogs then turned on the man, forcing him to flee into a tunnel beneath the Monash Freeway.

The victims of an alleged sex attacker have revealed the chilling words he allegedly said before the dogs they were walking came to the rescue

The dog walkers’ dogs sprang into action, chasing the alleged attacker into a tunnel beneath the Monash Freeway

The woman said the frightening encounter would not stop her from returning to the park
Footage filmed by one of the women shows six dogs of various breeds and sizes barking furiously as they chased the man through the park.
A blue heeler leapt up and latched onto the man’s leg, ripping his pants.
The man can be heard yelling at the dogs before eventually escaping. He remains on the run.
Despite a major police response involving the Air Wing, officers on the ground and the Dog Squad, the alleged attacker remains at large.
The woman said the frightening ordeal would not stop her from returning to the park.
‘I’m just going to have to be a little bit more cautious. I mean, I always have been anyway. As a female, you always have to be alert,’ she said.
‘I’m not going to let it stop me from coming to the park that I enjoy so much and the dogs enjoy.’
The man is described of being of African appearance, wearing a black tracksuit, grey hooded top, white socks and slides, and carrying a large bright blue backpack.
Anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
