Dune: Part Three is set to have 71 minutes of IMAX-exclusive expanded aspect ratio footage. The movie is being pushed by both IMAX and Warner Bros. as this year’s biggest cinematic spectacle to stay ahead of the “Dunesday” competition. From blocking Avengers: Doomsday’s IMAX entry to making sure that the Denis Villeneuve-directed film keeps up the momentum in pre-sales by announcing special screenings in a select few IMAX theaters, the makers are doing their best to make the movie the biggest release of the year.
The latest of these efforts is the confirmation of 71 minutes of IMAX-exclusive footage in the movie.
Dune: Part Three gets a jaw-dropping expansion with exclusive IMAX footage
Similar to The Odyssey, Denis Villeneuve also shot Dune: Part Three in 70mm IMAX, but not the entire movie. However, he shot a large portion of the movie in the premium format, which is why the movie becomes a crucial IMAX experience. According to the IMAX press release, Dune: Part Three is the first in the series to be filmed using both IMAX Film Cameras and IMAX-certified digital cameras.
“Dune: Part Three features 71 minutes of IMAX’s exclusive 1.90:1 Expanded Aspect Ratio,” the press release says.
The IMAX film cameras produce an unparalleled level of detail and immersion by delivering roughly 10 times the resolution of traditional 35mm film and 3 times the resolution of regular 5-perf 65mm film cameras. Moviegoers at IMAX theaters will be completely engrossed in the action as the image fills the enormous IMAX screen from top to bottom.

These scenes will be shown in IMAX’s imposing 1.43:1 Expanded Aspect Ratio, which offers the greatest image area in the world, in a few IMAX with Laser and IMAX 70mm film venues. With this new information, the movie creates more hype to help with the mania for its pre-sales. The IMAX tickets are now going fast, and theaters are getting packed months before its release.
The presales are also set to benefit from the new promotional footage released by the makers.
Dune: Part Three debuts new footage to pique interest
Tickets for Dune: Part Three in 70mm IMAX and other premium formats went on sale on Tuesday, and as we saw with The Odyssey, it was a bit of a bust. And it was further exacerbated by new footage released by Warner Bros. and director Denis Villeneuve. It has some really eerie and captivating scenes, but it is more of a TV commercial than a trailer.

However, the commercial does its job and fuels the desire for an IMAX experience of the film even more. The movie has offered special limited IMAX screenings from December 14 to get ahead on the word-of-mouth ride and get a head start in the Dunesday clash. Anyhow, the movie will have its general premiere on December 18, the same as Avengers: Doomsday.
