Gonzalez edges closer to Toon move 

Newcastle United are continuing to edge closer to agreement with Manchester City over a deal for Nico Gonzalez.

Gonzalez is valued around £50million. The 24-year-old was an unused substitute in City’s win over Bournemouth on Sunday with Marc Guehi playing in midfield and it is clear that a move away may now be in his best interests.

Matthias Jaissle wants to add a midfielder with Premier League experience before the window closes.

City agreed an £86m deal with Lille for midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi yesterday and want another before the window closes.

Newcastle also admire Tottenham’s Archie Gray though he has captained the side in pre-season and at the weekend in their 3-0 defeat to Brentford.

Tigers target towering forward

Hull are in talks for towering Union Berlin forward Ilyas Ansah.

The Germany Under-21 international was considered for selection by Ghana ahead of the World Cup and Hull are offering £19m, including add-ons.

The 21-year old is 6ft 6in tall and was a target for Besiktas earlier this year. He scored five goals and registered two assists in 26 games for Union Berlin last season.

Hull had a £7m offer for Stoke City winger Sorba Thomas knocked back last week and are continuing to work on other options.

Imps land Wheatley

Manchester United striker Ethan Wheatley has joined Championship side Lincoln City.

The 20-year-old agreed the move on Friday after seeing Everton pull out of a deal to sign him permanently earlier last week.

Wheatley, who had a spell at Bradford last season, joins on loan for the rest of this campaign.
