Newcastle ACCEPT Barcelona’s £70m bid for Anthony Gordon – as Magpies wantaway prepares for medical in Catalonia tomorrow

Anthony Gordon will begin his Barcelona medical on Thursday after the Spanish champions agreed a £70million deal with Newcastle.

Barca moved ahead of Bayern Munich and Premier League rivals, including Liverpool, after sporting director Deco held a meeting with the 25-year-old’s representatives on Monday.

Newcastle have negotiated a package worth in excess of £70m – including bonuses and a future percentage of any sale – and will now turn their attention to signing a replacement. Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo, 21, is on the shortlist.

Barca took control after Deco made it clear he was committed to making the move happen at the start of this week, and talks accelerated on Tuesday once they had made official contact with the Magpies.

Gordon’s camp had spoken to both Barca and Bayern and the framework of personal terms with the latter had been in place for several weeks. However, the Bundesliga club would not go beyond their £60m valuation.

The England winger finished the season as Newcastle’s top scorer with 18 goals but failed to feature in the final six games of the campaign amid speculation over his future.

Boss Eddie Howe admitted it was this that was keeping him out of the team.

Everton have a sell-on clause that will see them receive 15 per cent of the profit after they sold Gordon to Newcastle for £45m in 2023.

Liverpool’s interest had been longstanding but they are focusing on RB Leipzig’s £85m-rated Yan Diomande, with Paris St Germain’s Bradley Barcola another option. Gordon came close to joining the Reds two years ago with a medical set up in Germany while he was on international duty at Euro 2024, only for Newcastle to pull the plug when they instead sold Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest to solve their PSR deficit.

Anderson is currently the subject of conversations between Manchester City and Forest as they look to strike a £100million plus deal, but Newcastle do not have a sell-on clause.

Meanwhile, Barcelona still intend to discuss a deal for Marcus Rashford with Manchester United this week but their objective is to secure another loan. They have until June 15 to trigger a clause to buy the England forward for £26m.
