The New York Giants have handed back-up quarterback Jameis Winston a new two-year deal.

The extension is reportedly worth $13 million and ensures Winston will be the deputy to starter Jaxson Dart for the next three seasons. His existing deal still had one year to run.

Winston, an 11-year NFL veteran, has established himself as key member of the Giants locker room with his experience and leadership. 

He arrived in the Big Apple last year and served as the No. 3 behind Dart and Russell Wilson.

But when Dart suffered a concussion and Wilson struggled to perform, Winston was named the starter in Week 11 against the Green Bay Packers.

Winston eventually played three games for the Giants before Dart returned, completing 37 of 66 passes for 567 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Winston and his wife Breion recently attended the opening night of the US Open in Queens

But he has clearly done enough to impress new coach John Harbaugh in training camp and even scored a rushing touchdown in a preseason game against the Miami Dolphins.

Winston was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft and made the Pro Bowl as a rookie. 

He played in Florida for five seasons before eventually getting replaced by Tom Brady, who then led the Bucs to Super Bowl glory in 2021.

Winston signed with the New Orleans Saints in April 2020 and played there for four seasons before a one-year stop at the Cleveland Browns. 

It was a busy day at the Giants’ facility on Sunday as they also handed guard Jon Runyan a two-year, $22m extension. 

The Giants open their 2026 season against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football on September 13.
