Earlier this month, Natalie Portman excitedly confirmed that she is expecting a baby with her partner, musician Tanguy Destable.
“Tanguy and I are very excited…I’m just very grateful,” Natalie, 44, told Harper’s Bazaar in an interview published on April 17. “I know it’s such a privilege and a miracle.”
As it happens, Natalie’s father is a fertility doctor, so she’s deeply aware of how difficult it can be to get pregnant, particularly as you get older. Discussing this with the outlet, she said, “I grew up hearing about how hard it is to get pregnant. I have so many people I love who’ve had such a hard time with it that I want to be respectful around that as well. It’s such a beautiful, joyous thing, and it’s also not an easy thing.”
For context, this is Natalie’s third child. She already shares two children, aged 14 and 9, with her ex-husband, Benjamin Millepied. She and Benjamin quietly separated after 11 years of marriage in 2023. Their divorce was finalized last March.
Like Benjamin, Natalie’s new partner, Tanguy (also known as Tepr), is French. In the Harper’s Bazaar interview, the actor talked about living in Paris, where she and her kids have been based on and off for many years now. “There’s been beautiful spring weather,” she said, “so it’s been pretty amazing to just walk in the incredible parks here and go see art.”
Now, following the surprise news of her pregnancy, we have some updates on Natalie’s “normal Parisian life” — and why she decided to stay there, even after her split from Benjamin three years ago.
“Her French is good and confident and shows how comfortable she has become here,” a source told People this week, following the confirmation of Natalie’s pregnancy.
“[She] decided to stay here for her children’s education and built herself a new life around them and her businesses since her divorce from Benjamin,” the insider continued. “And the result is that she’s fallen in love with Paris.”
Another bonus of being pregnant in Paris? There’s an extra week to enjoy. “In France, they consider full-term to be 41 weeks rather than 40,” Natalie previously told Harper Bazaar, “so I guess I get an extra week to be pregnant this time around.”
Très magnifique! You can read the full People report here. Congrats, Natalie!
