Multiple people injured after shooting inside Kroger grocery store in Texas

A shooter opened fire in a Texas Kroger grocery store as two men were critically injured amid the gunfire.

The Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office responded to an active shooter at around 3pm at the grocery store in Cypress just outside of Houston.

At least two people were injured as law enforcement announced that a possible suspect was detained.

‘The shooting suspect has been detained and is currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital,’ the office said.

Witnesses told law enforcement that a Black male was seen wearing a yellow shirt and black pants and firing a weapon inside the store, according to the constable’s office.

‘Investigators are responding to the scene and will continue processing evidence as the investigation remains active,’ the office added.

As law enforcement arrived on the scene, one man was seen walking out of the store after suffering from a single gunshot wound. He was airlifted to hospital where he is said to be in critical condition, Fox 26 reported.

A second man was discovered inside the store having suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was airlifted to hospital where he is also in critical condition, according to the outlet.

Patrick Young had been shopping inside the store when gunfire erupted, he told Fox 43.

‘I was putting some food in the cart, and I heard a scream that sounded a little weird,’ he told the outlet.

‘First thought was it was just kids messing around in the store.’

Then, he heard shots ring out from around the back of the store.

‘I just turned around an rand in the opposite direction of the gunfire and out through the front door along with multiple other people,’ he continued.

Young said police arrived within a minute and began ‘jumping out of the car and running straight into there.’

‘There was no hesitation,’ he added.

In a statement Kroger said: ‘We are deeply saddened by the incident that occurred at our Fairfield Marketplace Kroger store located at 20355 Cypresswood Dr, Cypress, TX 77433.

‘We are cooperating with local law enforcement, who have secured the store and parking lot. The store will remain closed while the police investigation continues, and we have initiated counseling services for our associates.

‘To protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation, we are referring questions to our local law enforcement.’

The potential suspect’s identity has not yet been released pending investigation into their involvement, according to police.

Investigators are looking into reports that one of the victims was the shooter and that the two victims knew each other, the constable’s office said.

Sources told Fox News that the incident is believed to have sparked from a domestic situation.

‘The shooter showed up to busy Kroger where the victim worked and shot him. The victim is in “grave condition.” The shooter was also shot,’ Fox journalist Brooke Taylor said on X.

‘Police are trying to still confirm if the gunman was shot or he shot himself.’

Captain Juan Flores of the constable’s office told ABC News that no other bystanders were injured during the incident.

The total number of people injured and the extent of their injuries remains unclear.
